Strengthening stability and security through co-operation on good governance

On January 25-26, 2016 the OSCE hosted its first preparatory meeting for the 24th Economic and Environmental Forum on Strengthening stability and security through co-operation on good governance”. The Forum brought together officials from the 57 OSCE participating States and 11 OSCE Partner for Co-operation countries, high-level representatives from international organizations, as well as from the civil society, the academic and the business community. The Republic of Kazakhstan was represented by:

  • Dr. Yessekina, Head of Official Delegation, Director of the “Green Academy” SREC, Professor of Economics;

  • Mr. Primkulov, Deputy Chairman of Environmental Regulation and Supervision Committee, Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

  • Mr. Kurbanov, Deputy Chairman of Geology and Subsoil Use Committee, Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

  • Mr. Tereshkevich, CEO of “Human Health Institute” IPO.

The two-day meeting participants discussed essential issues related to good environmental governance, including environmentally sound decision-making practices across different sectors. They also looked into resources efficiency, waste management and green technologies in the context of promoting sustainable development and addressing climate change. During the panel session Dr. Yessekina presented “Greening the Economy: International Strategies and Kazakhstan” introducing national practices in implementing green economy policy. Following recommendations were put forward:

  • To improve national statistical system based on green indicators (OECD, World Bank, Eurostat, etc.);

  • To modernize planning and tax systems with consideration of green principles (EBRD, OECD, etc.);

  • To establish Green Bridge Institute-2016;

  • To establish an International Green Technology Centre under the aegis of the UN, OSCE and other international organizations using EXPO-2017 infrastructure;

  • To develop capacity building programs for decision-makers, business, and NGOs.
