May 25, 2016 within the framework of the IX Astana Economic Forum was held panel session on "FutureEnergy: Global Trends and Technology." Session organizers - Ministry of Energy, JSC "NC" Astana EXPO-2017 ", Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the OSCE, Scientific Research and Education Center "Green Academy", National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences, Association of scientific and technological organizations of RK, Institute of Economics of the Committee of scienceof MES of the RK, Nazarbayev University, International Science and Technology Center.

 The main topics for discussion at the session include:

World scenarios of energy development till 2050

Climate Security and Kazakhstan

Key factors for the development of "green" energy

Trends and technologies of global energy market

International cooperation in promotion of "green" technologies.

It is commonly known that in the world the trend of “green” economic growth and new energy strategy aimed to the transition to a low-carbon development is increasingly getting stronger. According to the International Energy Agency, the global economy demand for energy will increase each year, and will increase by a third by 2040. In its turn, the increase in energy consumption will increase the risk of air pollution, and will accelerate the process of global warming.In this context, issues of adaptation to climate change, the transition to a low carbon economy and renewable energy will be discussed at 2 sections: “Adaptation strategies to climate change and the decarbonization of the economy”, “Science, technology and innovation as the driving force of the development of economy and energy”and Round table “Prospects and development scenarios of the “Green economy”

At 09.00a.m. – opening of the panel session and the Section "Adaptation strategies to climate change and the decarbonization of economy" has started, upon moderators of the President and CEO of «EmeraldPlanet», USA, Dr S. Hancock, Director of Scientific Research and Education Center "Green Academy", Professor B.Yessekina. With welcome speech haveacted: Chairman of the International Program Committee WSEC – 2017, President of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences N. Abykayev, Chairman of the Board of joint stock company "National Company" Astana EXPO-2017" A. Yessimov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan K. Bozumbayev, Commissioner of the International specialized exhibition EXPO-2017 R. Zhoshybayev.

Speakers of the sectionwere well-known politicians, international and domestic scholars and experts in the field of traditional and alternative energy, decarbonization of the economy, adapting to climate change, "green" innovation and technology: US Ambassador to Kazakhstan George A. Krol, CEO of the Association of enterprises of the nuclear industry of the United Kingdom T. Greatrex, Director of the Center for Environmental Economics and Environmental sciences School of Economics (Russia) G. Safonov, Energy Program Director at the Grattan Institute,, Australia T. Wood, Director of the Institute of Economics of the Ministry of Education and Science Committee of the Science,, Doctor of Economics, Professor. A. Satybaldin, co-owner of the company ILF Kazakhstan Consulting Engineers LLC, Austria A. Feizlmayer, Chairman of the Board of JSC "Samruk-Energo" A. Satkaliyev, Deputy Director of the Joint Institute for High Temperatures RAS (Russian Federation) E. Son, Chief Researcher at the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC) Joao-Paulo Lobo-Ferreira, and the co-founder of Sablimerito, Portugal P. Martins.

The first session ended by signing of agreements with the Saudi Arabia and theRepublic of Poland to participate in the International specialized exhibition EXPO-2017.

At 11.30a.m.the Section “Science, technologies and innovations as the driving force of the development of economy and energy” moderated by the Vice-President for Innovation and Science of the Nazarbayev University Dr. K. Baigarinhas started its work. At the opening session with a common greeting and a brief report on the priorities of the "green" growth and the importance of innovation and advanced technologies in the development of the new economy delivered speeches Ambassador, Head of the OSCE Program Office in Astana György Szabó, co-chair of the International Program Committee WSEC-2017 President of the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan B. Zhumagulov.

The speakers of this section were: Professor of Mechanics of EngineeringSchool at Stanford University, a professor of material science and engineering, mechanical engineering professor and senior fellow at the Institute of Energy Precourt Dr. F. Prince, Advisor for Energy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, an independent energy consultant Dr. S. Garibba, Professor of Material Science Department and engineering in Stanford University Dr. T.Gur, Executive Deputy Chairman of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), Dr. R. Pachauri, Advisor of NAS, Belarus, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Science, P. Nikitenko, Director General of the National nuclear center of Kazakhstan E. Batyrbekov, Deputy Director of the International science and Technology center (ISTC) A. Turebaev.

The main challenges in the energy sector, the transition to a low-carbon electricity production, the role of science, technology and innovation in the fight against climate change were discussed in the discussion, which were held by the deputy CEO of the Association of Renewable Energy of Kazakhstan A. Kashkinbekov, General Director of the Information Analytical Center of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of KazakhstanA. Munara, Head of the Laboratory of energy, Environment and climate, Nazarbayev University E. Ahmetbekov.

At 14.30-17.30 p.m. was held round table "Prospects and scenarios for the development of "green economy" where moderators were Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Academician of the European Academy of Natural Sciences, the Russian Academy of Political Science and PhD O. Gabrielyan, Corresponding member, Chief scientific Secretary of the Presidium of the National Academy of engineering of the Republic of Kazakhstan G. Medieva.

Reports and presentations were represented by: Professor Emeritus of "Erlangen-NurembergUniversity”, the ex-president of the Department for the production of electricity on the basis of «Siemens» fossil fuels, Germany K. Riedle, Director of “Ekoenergomash”, JSC “NAC” Kazatomprom”, Doctor of Technical science, Prof. AUPET, academician of the International Academy of Engineering and the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan A. Bolotov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC "Holography industry", academician of the International Academy of engineering, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical sciences, Laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology L. Tanin, doctor, professor, Chairman of the Standing Committee on environment and Sustainable development of the European Council of civil engineers, the Chairman of the solar energy group of the Standing Committee of the World Federation of engineering organizations, Vice-President of the World Council of civil engineers, Vice-President of the European Council of civil engineers K. Arenz, academician of the National engineering Academy of Kazakhstan G. Mun and I.
