ECONOMIC MECHANISMS OF DECARBONIZATION IN KAZAKHSTAN

On February 26, 2021 at 6 pm the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland joning with the Green Academy by the support of UNDP in Kazakhstan, is holding e-Expert webinar on the theme “ECONOMIC MECHANISMS OF DECARBONIZATION IN KAZAKHSTAN”.
The purpose of the event is to discuss the economic mechanisms of decarbonization in Kazakhstan and priority issues in the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement (PCA) in term of preparation to the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP-26) that will be held in Glasgow (UK) in November 2021. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, HE.Yerlan Idrisov will delivera Welcoming speech to the partcipants.
The following Speakers will participate:
• Dr. Bakhyt Yessekina, Member of the Green Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Director of the “Green Academy” will present the progress in preparing the Concept of the Republic of Kazakhstan for transition to low-carbon developmenttill 2050;
• Ms. D. Carrington, Independent Adviser on International Policy on Climate Change, will present the priority issues of the COP-26 Agenda;
• Dr. Alexey Kokorin, Director of the Energy and Climate Program, WWF (Russia) will present the current climate policy of the Russian Federation before COP-26;
• Ms. Gulmira Sergazina, UNDP Portfolio Project Manager,
• Mr. Saulet Sakenov, Senior Consultant UNDP Project will present INDC of Kazakhstan and tools for adaptation of the national economy.
The webinar is expected to be attended by representative of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Embassies of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the UK and in the Netherlands, international experts and other organizations.
As the results of the discussion, the recommendations to the Government of Kazakhstan on strengthening of an information work with the broad participation of representatives of Ministries and akimats, academia and business, experts, international community and other stakeholders groups towards to COP-26.
