The World Economic Forum in Davos has identified the climate crisis as one of the most significant challenges of our time. As known, at the end of November 2023, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28) took place in Dubai, UAE. During the conference, President of Kazakhstan K. Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to fulfilling its national climate obligations and implementing the Carbon Neutrality Strategy by 2060.
In this context, the “Green Academy” REC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, with the support of the SECCA project (EU) and Tetra Tech (USAID), will host a Round Table in a hybrid format on January 26-27, 2024. The topic of discussion is “Outcomes of COP-28 and Recommendations for Achieving Carbon Neutrality in the Republic of Kazakhstan.” The event will cover the following areas: 1) improving monitoring, reporting, and certification of emissions under the introduction of the CBAM; 2) prospects for the development of RES and ETS considering auction mechanisms; 3) enhancing energy efficiency in Kazakhstan’s industry; 4) establishing a National Office under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and climate financing; 5) refining monitoring and accounting of methane emissions; 6) decarbonizing the agricultural sector; 7) formulating recommendations to the Government of Kazakhstan for the Carbon Neutrality Action Plan.
The Round Table is expected to involve representatives from government agencies, international organizations, businesses, and NGOs.
