Recommendations for Decarbonization Strategy – 2060 discussed at the round table

REC «Green Academy» together with the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms held a round table on decarbonization of the national economy «COP-27: results and prospects for Kazakhstan» on December 2, 2022.
The event was attended by Acting Permanent Representative of the World Bank in Kazakhstan Jane Ebinger, Regional Head of the EBRD Energy Department Yerlan Ramazanov, Head of the Commonwealth Department of the EU Government in Kazakhstan Johannes Baur, representatives of central government agencies and NGOs. The moderator of the round table was the director of the REC «Green Academy» Bakhyt Yessekina.
Asset Irgaliyev, Chairman of the Agency, noted that for Kazakhstan, the Strategy of Achieving Carbon Neutrality until 2060 brings both opportunities and challenges for structural and institutional transformations. «ASPiR understands the importance and pays special attention to the document,» he said.
«A green transition is absolutely necessary, because the danger of climate change can plunge the whole world into shock and crisis», – the speakers summed up.
At the end of the event, the parties agreed to continue cooperation in the framework of research and the development of recommendations that will be sent to the Government to make changes to the content of the draft Strategy.
