The Research and Education Center “Green Academy”, jointly with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and with the support of the British Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the University of Central Asia, is holding an Expert Dialogue on “THE POTENTIAL OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND AI FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION” at Astana Hub in Astana on 17 September 2026.
The objective of the event is to discuss the potential of applying artificial intelligence and digital technologies to the decarbonisation of production and to Kazakhstan’s integration into the global carbon market.
The Dialogue will provide for an exchange of views in the following areas:
– Climate risks and resilient infrastructure;
– Digital technologies in the oil, gas and mining sectors;
– Digital infrastructure and platforms for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement;
– Data centres and artificial intelligence infrastructure;
– International cooperation in research on AI and digital technologies for climate change adaptation.
Heads and representatives of the Ministries of Ecology and Natural Resources, of Industry and Construction, of Energy, and of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Company “Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary”, the UNFCCC, the World Bank, the OECD, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), the University of Central Asia, the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), the Central Asia Sustainable Innovation Bureau (CASIB), Global ESG, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken”, as well as faculty members and students of Kazakhstani universities and others are expected to take part in the event.
Discussion is planned on the use of AI and digital technologies:
– in addressing climate challenges and promoting innovative technologies within the framework of establishing a digital innovation hub for Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia;
– in the digital monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions in the oil and gas sector;
– in the creation of a digital ESG platform for the mining industry;
– in the development of digital infrastructure for transport, and others.
Following the Dialogue, it is planned to adopt recommendations to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the use of AI and digital technologies for the decarbonisation of the country’s economy and on preparations for the launch of a national pavilion at COP-31 (Antalya, Türkiye).
