SCIENTIFIC INITIATIVES FOR ADVANCING CLIMATE POLICY IN CENTRAL ASIA

The Research and Educational Center «Green Academy», in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the RK and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the RK, within the framework of the Regional Environmental Summit (RES), is organizing a panel session on the topic: «The Role of the Academic and Scientific Community in Shaping Regional Climate Solutions».

Purpose of the event – the session aims to discuss research conducted by scientists from Europe and Asia on environmental and climate challenges, particularly in the context of water and energy security and increasing climate risks. In particular, international and national experts from the IPCC, COMSTECH, UCA, CASIB, ISTC, NU, Green Academy, and DEXA (UAE) will present reports on the following topics:

– integration of science, business, and government in addressing climate challenges and promoting innovative technologies;

– development of human capital and training of a new generation of specialists in climate innovation, as well as strengthening regional expert capacity;

– creation of innovative and scientific collaboration platforms to promote joint initiatives and partnerships in climate, water resources, and environmental sustainability;

– institutional support for the development of carbon markets in Central Asia, including within the framework of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement;

– scientific research on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) for climate change scenarios in Central Asia;

– application of artificial intelligence and big data in climate modeling and natural resource management.

Participants – Heads and representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the RK, embassies of the United Kingdom, OECD and OIC countries, Germany, China, as well as representatives of universities, research institutes, the academic community, business, and NGOs from Central Asia.

It is expected that memoranda will be signed to launch a number of innovative projects in climate research and disaster prevention in the region, including the establishment of a Digital Regional Climate Center (Hub).
