The Council is a consultative and advisory body established in 2013 to facilitate the implementation of the Concept for the Transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to a Green Economy. The main topics of the meeting included the progress of the nationwide initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, “Taza Kazakhstan,” waste management issues, the development of waste recycling and waste-to-energy infrastructure, the modernization of municipal solid waste landfills, as well as energy conservation and the improvement of energy efficiency across the economy.
The following issues were discussed:
– Waste management issues.

– Implementation of the Concept for the Development of Environmental Culture “Taza Kazakhstan”.
Speakers: Akims of Turkistan Region, East Kazakhstan Region, and Ulytau Region
– Enhancing energy efficiency in industry and construction within the framework of the transition to a green economy.
Speaker: Y.K. Nagaspayev, Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The discussion was attended by heads of central government agencies, akims of all regions of Kazakhstan, and members of the Council for the Transition to a Green Economy.
During the meeting, Dr. Bakhyt Yessekina, Doctor of Economics and Director of the Green Academy Research and Education Center, proposed the establishment of a Coordinating Council on Green Economy Issues under the coordination of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The proposed body would provide scientific and technological support for the implementation of the “Taza Kazakhstan” program in the regions. The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation among the scientific community, educational institutions, businesses, and government agencies, as well as to promote the adoption of modern technologies and international best practices in the fields of sustainable development and environmental protection.
Following the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed government agencies to ensure the effective implementation of the measures envisaged under the Concept for the Development of Environmental Culture “Taza Kazakhstan”, strengthen efforts to eliminate unauthorized dumping sites, advance the waste recycling industry, and achieve the established targets in the areas of energy conservation and energy efficiency improvement.
