Prospects and potential for the development of geothermal energy in the Republic of Kazakhstan

On October 5, 2018, the Green Academy SREC together with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Association KAZENERGY held the 27th meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council (STC) on the theme “Prospects and potential for the development of geothermal energy in the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

The first vice-president of KAZENERGY Uzakbay Karabalin, director of the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Agabekov made welcome speeches.

On top of that Mr. Pall Valdimarsson (Senior Advisor for Research and Development at Arctic Green Energy Corporation (Iceland)), Mr. Mitsunori Motohashi (Chief Energy Specialist of the World Bank Office in the Republic of Kazakhstan), Dr. Malis Absametov (Director of Institute hydrogeology and geoecology named after U.Ahmedsafin), Dr. Bakhyt Yesekina (Director of the SREC “Green Academy”) provided Presentations.

In the discussion also participated Portugal Ambassador Adeline Da Silva, counselor of the chairman of KAZENERGY Arman Satimov, member of STС Baltabek Kaundykov and others.

Representatives of the Department of Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Committee of Geology and Subsoil Use of the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Water Resources Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Asian Development Bank, the UNECE, the US Embassy, KING and representatives of oil and energy companies participated the STС meeting.

As the result of the meeting recommendations and a draft Road map for conducting research in the field of geothermal energy sources for 2018-2019 were adopted.
