SCENARIOS OF DECARBONIZATION OF THE ECONOMY

On April 19 of this year, a consultation seminar on “DECARBONIZATION SCENARIOS FOR THE EXTRACTIVE INDUSTRY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN” was held at the site of the Gumarbek Daukeev AUPET University, organized by the Green Academy Scientific and Educational Center with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and AUPET University.

The purpose of the event was to discuss the directions of decarbonization of the extractive industry to prepare a Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for achieving Carbon Neutrality of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2060, as well as to develop proposals for the implementation of the Strategy.

Senator of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olga Bulavkina, Member of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dr. Serik Seidumanov, Adviser to the Minister of the Ministry of science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Farhad Kuanganov, as well as Rector of the AUPET named after Gumarbek Daukeev Murat Syzdykov made welcoming speeches.

Further, professor Sagintayeva S.S., presented a monograph prepared by the AUPET together with the REC “Green Academy” on the topic “Decarbonization of extractive industries of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

The moderator of the event was Dr. Bakhyt Yessekina, Member of the Council for Green Economy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Director of the REC “Green Academy”.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the MSHE of the Republic of Kazakhstan, NAS RK, scientists, national and international experts and others.

The reports were made by the Head of the EU Delegation for Cooperation in Kazakhstan, Dr. Johannes Bauer; Director of the Institute of Hydrogeology and Geoecology of K.Satpayev Kazntu Dr. Melis Absamatov; Director of the Institute of Advanced Training of Gumarbek Daukeev AUES Dr. R. Satova, General Director of GFC/AIFC Dr. A. Kazybayev, Coordinator of the OECD/IDDRI/EFI Project, Dr. G. Safonov; Director of the Research Institute “Energy Saving and Energy Efficient Technologies” at the L.N.Gumilyov ENU; Dr. A. Alimgazin, Director of the Institute of Thermal Power Engineering and Systems, Dr. A. Begimbetova.

The participants confirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality and noted the importance of preparing a Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2060.
