Scientists discussed the priorities of low-carbon development

On June 19, 2017 in Astanathe scientific and educational center “Green Academy” together with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the ISTC and theERG on the EXPO-2017 platform within the World Congress of Scientists and Engineers of WSOP-2017 held a session on the theme “Innovations, investments and technologies of low-carbon development: RES and the system of emissions trading”.

The event was held to discussthe trends of low-carbon development at the global and national levels, including in the context of promoting the Green Bridge Partnership Program.

The moderators of the session were the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner in the area of climate, the Advisor to the Chairman of the High-level Panel of Leaders and Experts on Water and Natural Disasters under the UN Secretary General Dr.Ray Kwon Chung and the director of REC “Green Academy”, member of the Council for the transition to a “green economy” under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Economics, Professor B.K. Yessekina.

During the session the reports and presentations in this area were presented by: Head of the Chair of Environmental Economics of the Moscow State University, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (Russia) Sergey Bobylev, Senior Project ManagerInternational Science and Technology Center (Japan) Dr.Akira Nakanishi, Head of the department LNEC (Portugal) Jorge Grandão Lopes, Manager at DIW econ (Germany)Dr.Petra Opitz, Professor in Thermal Energy Engineering School of Energy and Environment Southeast University (China)Peihong Wang,Vice President of WFEO and Chair of the Committee on Energy (USA) Samuel W. Grossman, Director of Product Development, Minas Energy (Canada)Kris MacLellan, Dr.-Еngineer, EcoWatt LLP (Kazakhstan)Marat Kambarov and so on. The winners of the international competition of start-up projects “Energy of the Future” also invited as participants in discussion.

Within the framework of the section there will also be a presentation of the book “Strategy of the transition of the Republic of Kazakhstan to low-carbon development in the context of globalization: potential, priorities and mechanisms of implementation” was prepared by well-known Kazakhstan scientists.

Based on the results of the sestion, recommendations were adopted to develop strategic directions for the transition to low-carbon development at the global and national levels.
